The developing element of the
house is the stone wall.
It settles a large porch on the south side of the house and the springing
line of the connecting veranda on the east side.
It is detached from the rest of the house it holds up which is held
in the air by painted wood columns, so that it clearly declares its
total independence.
The house is formed by two separate parts which become a single unit
thanks to the external wall and the roofed veranda.
In the first part there is the real house, while in the second one
there are the caretaker’s rooms and, on the first floor, a room
for guests. In the space between these two bodies there is the open-air
parking area.
The main building is distributed round a large living room reaching
a double/triple height.
It is connected with the portico on one side and with the kitchen
and bathroom on the other side. A central staircase leads to the gallery
which arranges all bedrooms and the study. From here, crossing the
roofed veranda, it is possible to get to the room for guests which
can be reached also with other stairs, directly from the outside.
The central area is spaced by four columns which sustain another mass
having round holes; the latter will make the ventilation and refreshing
of the house possible.
This huge wood columns will be carved according to the tradition of
Zanzibar, just like the mouldings which frames doors and windows.
The floors, excluding those of the kitchen and bathrooms which are
tiled, will be realized with Tanzanian wood strips. Outer surfaces
will be dressed and painted in white, the inner ones in pastel colours.
The roof, made of reinforced bricks, will be covered with a copper
sheathing. For what concerns outside floors, alleys will be covered
with gravel while paths and walks will be made of stones.
